Keep track of your Credit Card expenses frequently to avoid fraudulent transactions. You can track your spends by opting to receive SMS and email alerts following every Credit Card transaction. Also, inform the bank and block your card immediately in case of fraudulent transactions.
- What Not to Do:
Utilising only a part of your card’s credit limit may be the right way to go. Over-utilisation of the credit limit may impact your credit score, burden you with a huge debt, and makes repayment difficult.
While it may seem wise to to have more than one Credit Card and by extension an additional credit limit, especially during emergencies, applying for multiple Credit Cards may not be not prudent. Doing so may make you appear credit hungry or a imply risk-taking tendencies
Paying only the minimum amount due on your Credit Card is not recommended. By choosing this option, you would typically carry forward the remaining amount to the next cycle, incurring an interest rate on the delayed payment, and increasing your outstanding Credit Card debt.
Understanding how to use a Credit Card wisely is vital. Consider these security tips.
Your Credit Card comprises details like your name, card number, expiration date and the CVV number. While making online transactions, you must enter these details. You must also input the 4-digit pin along with a One Time Password (OTP) the bank sends on your registered mobile number (RMN) to authenticate the transaction. Ensure secure transactions by not sharing your PIN or OTP with anyone.
You can activate your card for international usage anytime. We recommend you deactivate it soon after arriving in India. You must inform us immediately upon losing your card or if you notice fraudulent or suspicious transactions on your card. The bank will block the card immediately in such cases.
Do not respond to correspondences asking for your card number, expiry date, or other data. While you may have to input some values when you call us on the helpline, remember that HDFC Bank or our representatives will never ask you for your Credit Card PIN, CVV, or OTPs. Do not share this information with anyone.

No, you don't have to pay interest on all purchases. However, suppose you do not repay the total outstanding amount on or before the bill due date. In that case, the unpaid dues and all additional transactions begin attracting interest till the pending amount is repaid in full.
If you do not pay the minimum amount due on your Credit Card by the payment due date, you will be levied a late payment fee. Frequent late payments may affect your Credit Rating and force the Bank to reassess your credit profile, reducing your Credit Card limit and a possible increase in interest rate.
