As per the labour ministry data, India will continue to add 1 million to its workforce every month for the next 15 years. A lot of whom would come from impoverished background. Our programmes aim to create an opportunity for them to escape the cycle of poverty by creating opportunities at various levels. We focus on creating local opportunities where possible, upskilling them in their existing occupations be it agriculture or allied businesses such as dairy, poultry etc. Where possible we also provide placement linked training as well. Each of these initiatives are tailor-made to address the prevailing market conditions and geography.

Skill building and Livelihood Promotion in Meghalaya

Sisilia Makri lives in Pahambir Them in Meghalaya. In addition to household chores, Sisilia helped her husband in farming, and together they earned an average of about Rs. 3000 to Rs. 4000 per month. Sisilia joined a self help group which provided training to her as well as other women in her village. They received assistance in market linkage and today they manufacture brooms which are being sold in local markets as well as being sent to Andhra Pradesh. Sisilia now makes about 30 to 40 brooms per day earnings an average of 150 rupees a day. This additional income will help her pay for her children's education and also take care of other needs. She is grateful to HDFC Bank Pvt Ltd and FXB India Suraksha for giving her this opportunity to earn. HDFC Bank tied up with FXB India Suraksha to generate employment and alleviate poverty in the community by promoting enterprise development. The focus is on agro & allied livelihood activities such as broom-making and bee-keeping.

Training programme in Varanasi

Prathna Singh was a graduate staying in Suswahi village, Varanasi. Prathna had completed her graduation but lacked the necessary employment skills. She enrolled herself for the training programme offered by HDFC Bank through Orion Edutech in Uttar Pradesh. She underwent career assessment and counselling and chose to pursue a course in the service sector. After successful training, she secured a job with Bai Bazaar as an executive sales officer through the job fairs/ Rozgar mela organised by the institute. Today she is earning Rs. 7,500/- per month. HDFC Bank in partnership with Orion Edutech has provided training to more than 8,000 youth in the age group of 18-35 in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, the programme is designed as per NSQF Standards and SSC guidelines for a variety of job roles depending on the aspirations of the candidates as well as the existing qualities and skill set. The candidates passing out through the programme are being provided with NSDC Certification as well.

Kaushal Vikas Kendra

Ajay Patil is from a small village Newali of Karjat block, where he studied up to 12th standard. He never imagined he would need to step outside his village in search of a job. Ajay's father has been suffering from chronic disease for the past one year. Being the eldest, the responsibility of the family came on his shoulders. He wanted to earn money to support his family but did not have the necessary skills to get employment. HDFC Bank's project "Hunar" helped him to get the skills to attain a good job. Ajay enrolled in the training programme at Newali. HDFC Bank in partnership with Edubridge Learning Private Ltd, has initiated training centres/Kaushal Vikas Kendras in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The skilling centres provide formal training on different employability oriented trades for the youth in the age group of 18-35. The course duration depending on the trade ranges from 30 – 60 days. The training encompasses counselling, domain course training, on-the-job training as well as soft skills development culminating with sector specific placements. Post placement, six months of tracking and monitoring on the job is carried out to check effectiveness of the programme. A total of about 1600 youth are being benefitted through the centres.

OTHER INITIATIVES

Organizing blood donation drive

HDFC Bank conducts one of India's largest single day blood donation drives. The Bank started this initiative in 2007 when over 4000 volunteers came forward to donate blood. Over the past eight years, this initiative has grown in size and stature. On 11th December 2015, HDFC Bank's All India Blood Donation Drive was attended by 1,76,022 volunteers, with 1,49,562 units collected.

Payroll giving programme for employees

Under this programme, employees are provided with an easy and convenient mechanism to donate a small share of their salaries on a monthly basis. The accumulated corpus is annually donated to a charity of their choice. HDFC Bank matches their contribution, thereby endorsing the charity they choose to support. The initiative is running since 11 years and the Bank has collectively managed to make a contribution of Rs 14.41 crore to different organisations through give India.
